GENESIS
The Department of Educational Technology established in September
1990 as an interdisciplinary department offers research programmes
and professional courses at the post graduate level in the fields
of education, e-learning and educational communication. Skills of
the students are honed for inventive accomplishment and service
to society through institutional dedication to superior learning
and career preparation. The curriculum integrates the talents of
students with their personal visions and aspirations. The approach
to learning is interdisciplinary and the post graduate programmes
have been designed with the objective of creating a new breed of
professionals having appropriate values and ethos.
RESEARCH PROGRAMMES
The department conducts M.Phil and Ph.D programme in educational
technology (interdisciplinary) from the academic year 1991-92. The
chief aim is to enhance students understanding of important concepts,
theories, models and current events in education and technology
at higher level. The researchers are trained to develop creative
and critical thinking about education, media and communications
concepts.
The research scholars are encouraged to undertake research projects
for professional presentation in seminars, conferences and publications.
Doctoral courses claim active roles for students in intellectual
exchange with both faculty and fellow students.
The Faculty members and Scholars have published over 100 research
articles in the area of Media Research, Computer Education, and
Technology in education and Distance Education. One of our faculty
members have received grant for two major research projects from
UGC and NCERT in the area of CAI.
UGC INNOVATIVE SCHEME
The UGC has selected the Department of Educational Technology
to conduct M.A Educational Communication under the innovative programmes
– Teaching and Research in interdisciplinary and emerging
areas with a grant of rupees 38 lakhs and 2 lecturers.

POST GRADUATE COURSES
M.Sc Electronic Media (Education)
A two year programme in Electronic Media (Education) that requires
having an aptitude for communication, media and teaching/learning
principles.
M.A Educational Communication
A two year programme in Educational Communication that aims at
developing the expertise to become educational media personnel who
can develop and validate instructional materials using audio, video
and computer technology.
M.Ed
The M.Ed is a professional, graduate-level degree that emphasizes
on applied coursework and usually requires completion of a field-based
experience. They become a part of the critical mass of students,
educators, and faculty addressing important issues in education
and human development.
CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK
- The curriculum framework for M.SC Electronic Media (Education)
& M.A Educational Communication focuses on: Graphics and Animation,
Web Designing, Audio and Video (Pre-Production and Production),
Audio and Video (Post Production), E-Learning and Educational
Technology.The papers enable the students to understand the principles
of psychology of learning, types and significance of communication
technology in learning, develop necessary skill in the use of
selected multimedia applications in teaching learning process.
- The curriculum framework for M.Ed emphasis on: Philosophical
and Sociological Foundations of Education, Advanced Educational
Psychology, Curriculum Principles and ICT.
PROJECT WORK AND INTERNSHIP
The internship is a unique activity of the PG programme.
It involves a three months internship for the students in the area
of media and e-learning software companies. Training and internships
are specially geared towards preparing students for their professional
careers. The intention is to catalyze professional qualities, so
that they can take up positions of enhanced responsibilities on
completion of the course.
DEPARTMENT INFRASTRUCTURE
Library:
The department is provided with in-house library.
It has sufficient amount of books, journals, newsletters, in the
area of education, media and communication. The department has developed
an online library information website and aptitude testing website
(www.skillstack.com).
Seminar Hall
A spacious seminar hall with smart classroom facility
is available.
Internet Facility
Faculty members, post graduate students and research
scholars are allowed free internet access in the department with
provision for multimedia accessories.
Multimedia Lab
The lab in an air conditioned room has a server and
15 PCs with recent hardware configurations. All computers are installed
with multimedia kit (CD/DVD writer, headphone with mike, etc), and
the software of recent versions.
Here the students are able to transform the creative
ideas into actions, and are trained in Macromedia Flash, Actionscript,
Macromedia Dreamweaver, and Javascript. Students practice to prepare
computer-based & web-based e-learning materials using Macromedia
Flash and Actionscript. The skill to use Macromedia Dreamweaver
for developing websites and web-based e-learning materials are trained.
The computer terminals in the lab are also installed with Photoshop,
CorelDraw, Illustrator, Adobe Captivate, and other software to develop
e-learning products.
Video Studio
The department has a State-Of-Art studio with all
modern facilities to produce and edit audio and video. Here the
students gain hands on experience to present their visual ideas
and achieve the best sequence of video.
The studio has professional cameras, microphones,
converters, etc for producing audio and video programmes, and two
editing suites installed with ProTools and Avid Xpress, the audio
and video editing software respectively. Here all aspects of audio
& video recording and non-linear audio & video editing are
taught to the students.
CAREER PROSPECTS
The course exposes the learners to industry professionals
and provides assistance to develop the connections they need to
achieve good career prospects. By the time the students complete
their post graduation, they will have necessary skills and technical
ability to be hired by professional bodies.
Students are likely to get placed as: Instructional
Designer, Content Experts, Content Manager, Content Developer, Subject
Matter Expert, Audio/video Experts Animators/graphic professionals,
Web Visualizers, and Curriculum Developers. Apart from this students
can also work as free lancers; they are equipped with enough potential
skills to start a business of their own.

ALUMNI WALK
The department of Educational Technology, Alumnus
has formed an alumni association for the welfare of their fellow
mates. The Electronic media association formed in the year 2003
was inaugurated by Mr. Lenin, Film Editor. The alumni association
exists to engage alumni in a life-long partnership for the advancement
and mutual interest of the alumni and the university.
