The Dept. of Extension, Career Guidance and Students Welfare is one of the teaching, research and extension service departments of the University with the purpose of conducting credit and non-credit courses in Educational Extension and Career Guidance. Presently the department supports GOs and NGOs in areas like Non-formal Education for Children and Adults, Legal literacy, Literacy for Tribal children, Reproductive Health Awareness, Community Colleges and Campaigns for Social Issues like Child Labour Elimination and Edcuation for All. The faculty members in the department have been supporting the affiliated colleges and NGOs to establish Career Guidance Cells to provide assistance to students in their Career Choice, C.V. Writing, Appearing interviews and on-line guidance materials for Higher Education.
The department provides Consultancy Service to Development Organizations, Civil Societies, NGO Networks and CBOs for Project Writing, Project Evaluation and Campaigning for Social Issues. NGOs and Govt. Projects which work for the Educational improvement of underpriviledged including tribals can seek our assistance in the production of teaching learning materials, fund raising, Remedial Teaching Courses and Staff training. Colleges which proposed to establish Career Guidance Cells and seek our assistance in testing students' aptitude, Communication skills and Career planning efforts. The department has already been providing technical assistance to more than 20 NGOs in Coimbatore and Nilgiris for their Educational efforts, Abolition of Child Labour, Reproductive Health Awareness and Education for All. Two projects funded by Cordaid and Actionaid have been evaluated recently by the Director of the department. Also Colleges which propose to conduct Coaching classes for Civil and Banking Service Examinations and other competitive examinations can also be given consultancy in the establishment of centres, identification of resource persons and materials.
