Bharathiar University and Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)(Set up under an Act of Parliament) New Delhi have signed a memorandum of understanding to offer B.B.A., B.Com., M.Com., and MBA Degree courses commencing from the academic year 2008-09.
Regulations to the admission into various UG & PG degree courses:
Eligibility conditions for the admission into Under Graduate Programme (BBA/B.Com.)
- A pass at the entry level examination of Chartered Accountancy course of ICAI (or)
- A pass in the Intermediate stage of Chartered Accountancy course of ICAI.
- A graduate from a recognized university or a pass in the Final of ICAI (or)
- A successful completion of BBA/B.Com., through ICAI offered by Bharathiar University.
(i) Coordination Committee was constituted with the following members:
a. Vice-Chancellor - Chairman
b. Mr. CA.G. Ramaswamy - Member - Chartered Accountant
c. Dr.P.Thirumavalavan - Member
d. Dr. G. Sridharan - Convener
(ii) Decided to conduct Examination during the month of May 2011 for all those candidates registered under BU-ICAI Joint Programme and the last date for registration will be 31.08.2010. During the month of September 2009 candidates have to apply for examination in the prescribed application form which can be downloaded from the site during that period.
(iii) Examinations will be conducted in the respective ICAI Chapters and to create an exam centre by BU, the minimum number of candidates prescribed is 100.br>
(iv) An observer will be sent to every examination centre during the dates of examination.
Chartered Accountants and CA students from various part of the country raised the following doubts with regard to BU-ICAI Joint programme. In this connection the following decisions were taken:
1. Whether Candidates can undergo both the programmes (M.Com. and M.B.A) and (B.Com. and B.B.A) simultaneously? ---NO
2. Whether the candidates can take National Eligibility Test (NET) after registering the programme? ---YES
3. Whether a candidate who is already undergoing a course under our university distance education can switch over to BU-ICAI programme? ---NO
4. Fee structure for foreign CAs and CA students

5. Arrangement of Examination Centre for foreign candidates
Foreign ICAI chapters will act as exam Centre.
6. Qualifications for registering Ph.D. for CAs.
Qualified Chartered Accountants can register for Ph.D. programme in Commerce.
Admission to Ph.D. programme for CAs will be done under external registration scheme of Bharathiar University.
