The following are the worthy accomplishments and initiatives taken by the University to improve the Standards of Faculty Strength, Research activities and infra-structure of the Bharathiar University during the last two years.
After a gap of nearly 15 years, around 50 Faculty members were recruited.
The covetous BU-DRDO Centre for Life Sciences has been established at a cost of Rs.18 Crore. This Prestigious Centre was inaugurated by His Excellency, the President of Indian Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Which is the first ever visit of a President of the Nation to the University.
Four Departments of the University have been sanctioned with the UGC SAP(Special Assistance Programme) DRS Programme and One Department under the Innovative Programme. Eight more Departments have applied for the UGC SAP-DRS programme.
Encouraging the faculty to submit projects to different funding agencies to the tune of 6 Crores – realizing about Rs.3.0 crores.
B.P.Ed. programme has been started in the Department of Physical Education.
Three new Departments namely, The Department of English and Foreign Languages, Department of Bioinformatics and the Department of Nano-Technology have been established.
Signing of MoU with the Foreign Universities for exchange of Faculty and Students (eg) Wyoming University.
The Number of Research fellowships has been increased from just 25 to 60 and steps have been taken to increase the number of fellowships to 120 very shortly.
Publication division has been established. Four books have already been brought up.
Four new buildings worth about 10 crore have been completed and declared opened by the then Chancellor & Governor Shri. Rammohan Rao.
New buildings worth about 1crore have been declared opened by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and also foundation stones were laid by Madam for several buildings worth about 7 crore, which includes a state-of-the-art auditorium.
A sum of Rs.5 Crores has been sanctioned by the Government of Tamilnadu for the construction of International Faculty and Student Centre (2 Crores), Indoor Stadium (1.5 Crores), Building for the Department of Nanotechnology (Rs.1.5 Crores)
Providing and modernizing the seminar halls in every building, giving a face-lift to the campus.
A dynamic Website, touch-screen information Kiosks (not only in the University campus but also in the neighbouring District-Erode), broad-band connectivity to every Department, Establishing the Satellite Interactive Terminal (Edusat), Inflibnet Info net (I.e. access to 4,600 electronic journals access), digitalization of the Library (in progress).
Entering into an MoU with ELCOT to have R&D based Techno Park with the name BU-ELCOT City.
Technology Business Incubator is to be established shortly.
Total e-governance of the Examination wing and establishing the State-of-the-Art Computer centre for the School of Distance Education.
For the first time in the whole of the country a mega Career Fair for the undergraduate Arts and Science Students was organized in 2003, (30000 people participated) which set a model to other Universities and Institutions. These fairs were continued in 2004 & 2005 – now organized in the Colleges of the three different districts under the aegis of Bharathiar University.
Made the NSS programmes of the University as the largest in the whole of the country.
Group Insurance scheme to teachers, Administrative staff and students has been introduced.
